Will Kelly Clarkson’s Divorce End Her Relationship With Blake Shelton And ‘The Voice’?

On Thursday, we learned that Kelly Clarkson had filed for divorce from her husband Brandon Blackstock. The couple was married for nearly seven years, and their split comes as a shock to many fans.
Kelly and Brandon’s split is complicated by the fact that their careers are closely tied, and they both have connections to people in the music industry, particularly those involved with The Voice. Could this affect Kelly’s place on the show? Or her relationship with Blake Shelton?
Kelly Clarkson’s Husband Is Hers As Well As Blake Shelton’s Manager
Kelly’s husband Brandon Blackstock is the son of Kelly’s former manager Narvel Blackstock. Brandon has since become Kelly’s manager. As the couple hasn’t shared details of their split, it’s not clear if they will also be cutting ties professionally.

In 2018, Kelly told Marie Claire that working with her husband is about “respect.” She added that she would have hired him whether or not they were a couple, as she’s witnessed how he managed Blake Shelton’s career. (More on that in a minute.)

“He’s really talented at what he does and his mind really does work in a completely different way,” Kelly said of Brandon at the time. Even if she values him as a manager, we wonder if working with her ex-husband will be too awkward.
Splitting with Brandon as her manager may not directly affect Kelly’s job on The Voice, but he has other connections with the show that may make things more complicated.
Brandon Blackstock’s Connections To ‘The Voice’
As previously mentioned, Brandon also manages Kelly’s fellow Voice coach Blake Shelton. They worked together before Kelly and Brandon got married, and Blake even says he encouraged Brandon to propose.
Then there’s Brynn Cartelli, who won The Voice Season 14 on Team Kelly. After her win, Brynn signed a management deal with Brandon Blackstock. She’s also appeared on Kelly’s tour and her talk show. That’s another Voice connection.

And don’t forget that Brandon’s former stepmother is Reba McEntire, Kelly’s mentor. Reba has previously guest-coached on The Voice, and was reportedly the show’s first choice as a country coach before Blake.
For a lot of people, getting divorced has little or no impact on a person’s day job. But for Kelly, her marriage and her role on The Voice are connected in quite a few ways. We hope it doesn’t affect Kelly’s choice to return to the show next season.
