The Voice Season 20 returned on Monday night as the Battles continued. Coaches Kelly Clarkson, John Legend, Nick Jonas, and Blake Shelton paired up their artists for duets.

Kelly wasn’t feeling well, so Kelsea Ballerini once again sat in her chair while the coach watched the performances remotely. This round also featured several celebrity advisors. Luis Fonsi joined Team Kelly, Dan + Shay joined Team Blake, Brandy joined Team Legend, and Darren Criss joined Team Nick.

The night also featured two saves and a steal. At one point, Nick used Blake’s own method of reverse psychology against him, and ended up stealing one of his artists.

Cam Anthony vs. Emma Caroline (Team Blake)

Blake teamed up Cam and Emma to sing “10,000 Hours” by Dan + Shay and Justin Bieber, because it combined pop and country. Dan + Shay just happened to be the advisors for Blake’s team. They said Cam and Emma sang the song better than they did.

Nick complimented Cam’s stage presence. John said he sings with “passion and fire and conviction,” but said Blake can’t go wrong with either singer. Blake said he wasn’t sure if Emma believes she’s a great singer. Ultimately, Blake chose Cam as the winner of the battle. However, he hit his button to save Emma, so she’ll stay on his team.

Gihanna Zoe vs. Halley Greg (Team Kelly)

Kelly paired up Gihanna and Halley to sing “Thinking Out Loud” by Ed Sheeran. She said that “any genre can sing it.” The coach introduced them to their advisor, Luis Fonsi, who called it a “girl power battle.”

Blake said Halley is “quirky” and has a “cool voice.” Nick said he would have thought Gihanna was Beyoncé if he closed his eyes. John said Gihanna can do “the lows and the highs.” After texting with Kelly, Kelsea ultimately chose Gihanna as the winner of the battle. Because none of the coaches chose to steal Halley, she was eliminated.

Durell Anthony vs. Zania Alaké (Team Legend)

John paired these two singers up to sing “Emotion,” inspired by the Destiny’s Child version of the Bee Gees song, which he said his wife Chrissy Teigen loves. John’s advisor Brandy helped him coach the singers during their rehearsal.

Kelsea said she was “blown away” by their performance. Blake said they were “with the right coach.” Nick complimented the song choice, and said Zania has “natural charisma.” Ultimately, John chose Zania as the winner of the battle. Because no one stole Durell, he was eliminated.

Jordan Matthew Young vs. Keegan Ferrell (Team Blake)

Blake paired up these two artists to perform “Calling All Angels” by Train, explaining that singers from various genres can make the song work. They received help from The Voice advisors Dan + Shay during rehearsals.

Nick said he wanted to see Keegan enjoy things more, but he said Jordan was cool, and thought Blake should choose him. John said they were different, but they were both “compelling.” Ultimately, Blake chose Jordan as the winner of the battle. Nick hit his button to steal Keegan, so he’ll stay on the show. He said he used a “misdirect” in his comments to Blake to get Keegan on his team.

Lindsay Joan vs. Zae Romeo (Team Nick)

Nick paired Lindsay and Zae to perform “Rewrite the Stars” from The Greatest Showman. The singers were excited about Nick’s song choice for them. Advisor Darren Criss told the artists to bring their own “theatrical element” to the song.

John called it a “powerful duet,” praising both artists’ ranges. He said he wasn’t sure who Nick should pick. Kelsea complimented Zae for holding his own against Lindsay, who is a theater performer. Ultimately, Nick chose Zae as the winner of the battle. Because no one stole Lindsay, she was eliminated.

Corey Ward vs. Savanna Woods (Team Kelly)

Kelly paired these two singers up to perform “Dreams” by Fleetwood Mac, saying they both have rock ‘n’ roll and singer-songwriter vibes. Corey and Savanna said they expected Kelly to pair them together. They were advised by Luis Fonsi, who said they have a “deep musical connection.”

Blake said someone was pitchy in the middle of the performance, but added that the rest was good. Nick said he was “at a loss” for which artist to choose. John said he was leaning toward Corey. Kelsea said Kelly had a hard time choosing, but they ultimately went with Corey as the winner and chose to save Savanna. Both of them will stay on Team Kelly.
