In every singing competition, there is always someone who tries to tackle a Beyoncé song. Some do her justice while others fail miserably. It’s really the risk you take when taking on one of the world’s greatest performers. Let’s take a look back at singers on talent shows, both good and bad, who have been compared to Beyoncé. I know the “Beyhive” will have some thoughts on this one.

7. Bun ‘nd Cheese

This trio auditioned for the X factor UK in 2010 and was thoroughly confident in their ability to deliver on stage. In their pre-audition interview they compared themselves to the likes of both Beyoncé and Mary J. Blige. Their unusual band name comes from their favorite food. It seems they spent a little too much time coming with with stage names and not enough time rehearsing.

The girls attempted to sing “Listen” by Beyoncé, though they seemed very unprepared. They did not even know the words to their own audition song, and barely made it through. Honestly, I think the whole thing was a gag, there’s no way they were serious. Funny to watch though.

6. Ife Taiwo

This determined diva auditioned for the X factor UK in 2016. She even jokes with Simon Cowell before her audition that she has been calling his office in hopes to get on the show. She ambitiously performed Beyonce’s “Crazy in Love” in the audition room, after mentioning several times that she was greatly inspired by her.

This girl came ready with all the moves. You could tell she had been preparing for this moment for a long time. Her vocals unfortunately fell flat, but the judges were all very kind to her, especially Cowell. Before leaving the audition room, he says he would have given her a “yes,” and offers her encouraging advice. We love nice Simon!

5. Athena Manoukian

This self proclaimed Greek superstar, auditioned for the X Factor UK on season 15. She was quick to tell the host about her popularity on the internet. Her goal was to gain more fans from the U.K. The 24 year old “songwriter” started off her audition with the 50 Shades of Grey version of Beyoncé’s “Crazy in Love.” She then transitioned into the original upbeat version of the song, with the accompaniment of dancers on stage.

This half of the performance did not work. It was pretty much a rip off of Beyoncé’s live concert version of the song. Surprisingly, she got three out of four yeses, even one from Cowell.

4. Mary Ann Van Der Horst

In 2014, this dynamite underdog auditioned for the X Factor Australia. She blew the judges away with her rendition of “Halo” by Beyoncé. The judging panel and audience alike made sly remarks and facial expressions as she spoke on stage. Van Der Horst was unfairly judged before she even began to sing, based on nothing but her broken English.

Judge Ronan Keating was particularly skeptical. From the first note she sang, she proved them all wrong. Van Der Horst even earned a standing ovation in the end. The Beyoncé soundalike did not make it to the top 24, but continued to perform after the show. This goes to show you, never judge a book by its cover!

3. Jessica Sanchez

This standout vocalist from American idol sang sang Beyoncé’s “Sweet Dreams” during the top 9 performances in 2012. Her tone is very reminiscent of Beyoncé’s style in this song, and it proved to be a perfect match for her.

Jennifer Lopez even made a comment suggesting that her rendition was so good, that Beyoncé might want to include it in her show. At just 16 years old, she possessed a talent and vocal maturity far beyond her years. No wonder she made it all the way to the finale.

2. Anneth Delliecia

This amazing vocalist from Indonesian Idol Junior took on Beyoncé’s”If I Were a Boy” in one of the best renditions I’ve ever heard. She won season three of the show at just 12 years old and has a better voice than most adults I’ve heard on talent shows.

She has 3.2 million Instagram followers, and can now be recognized as a professional singer. If you wanna talk about singers that have done Beyoncé justice, this girl is hands down one of them. This mini Mrs. Carter has come into her own since her time on the show, and even won a JOOX Indonesia Music Award. I think the “Beyhive” would claim her.

1. Candice Boyd

Okay, so I had to save the best for last. The season one runner up on The Four is a vocalist that at times sounded more like Beyoncé than the queen herself. I know, the “Beyhive” is probably shaking their heads right now. Normally, I would agree, but then I heard Candice sing for myself. From her tone, riffs, and vocal growl, the comparison to Beyoncé’s style is just uncanny. If anyone has to play her in a movie, Candice should be the number one choice. Just take a listen for yourself.

Are there any other singers on talent shows that you think have what it takes to stand with Queen Bey?
