Shakira Teases “Don’t Wait Up” Single Leading Fans to Wonder: Did She Come Out?

The former coach of The Voice, Shakira, teased her new single “Don’t Wait Up” on social media this week. The superstar shared a short video on her Instagram of what fans think are song lyrics to the new track. Fans were also quick to notice her new profile picture, which matches the cover art to the unreleased song. Maybe it’s the rainbow color scheme, but a number of comments seemed to wonder if this was the singer’s way of coming out.
Did Shakira Come Out in Her New Single?
“Won’t you put down your phone?, Don’t be afraid if it gets late, I need to do something for myself, You’ll survive, it’s just one night, I wish I’d be happy without ya, Don’t wait up,” she types on screen in the Instagram video.
Aside from being excited for a new Shakira hit, many fans have been speculating a little more than just new music coming out. A number of comments under the artist’s recent posts have been asking the singer if she is gay.
“SHAKIRA UR PFP YOU GOT SOMETHING TO SAY ORRRR,” one fan commented.
There seems to be some mass speculation regarding Shakira’s sexuality based on her rainbow-themed image, which matches the colors of the Lesbian Pride flag. The artist has not yet responded to any of the comments regarding the subject.
Meanwhile, she remained busy at work among all her recent projects. Her new unreleased single will drop seven months after her collaboration with the Black Eyed Peas on “Girl Like Me.” The song gained over 300 million views on YouTube and even inspired a TikTok challenge.
She has also been nominated for two Latin Music Awards and graced the cover of Vogue Mexico recently, and broke down her top 19 looks from the year 2000 to now. Shakira continues to be an advocate for a clean planet, and has become an official member of the EarthShot Prize Council.
Shakira has been delivering lately, and whether she identifies as gay or not, who really cares? If the artist decides to share that with the world, great, but it would not change anything about what she has already accomplished. Will we know more after “Don’t Wait Up” drops? Probably, but I guess we’ll all have to wait and see.
