JoJo as The Black Swan was one of the fan-favorite contestants on Season 5 of The Masked Singer. She came up just a bit short in the finale. Though it was Nick Lachey as The Piglet who took home the win, JoJo is walking away as the real winner. She is reflecting on her journey on the show and just dropped a new song.

JoJo Speaks Out After Performances as The Black Swan

The 30-year-old singer said she decided to do The Masked Singer after her 2020 tour was canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Over the past few years, JoJo developed stage fright and thought that being The Black Swan would help her conquer her fears. She was inspired after watching Season 4 of the show because all of the contestants looked like they were having fun on stage. It proved to be an awesome decision on her part because she dominated the competition.

“Every time I made it to a new round, I was SURE it would be my last,” she wrote on social media. “I didn’t say yes to this show to win it-saying yes to the show was truly the win I needed. If it weren’t for this experience, I may not have shaken from my funk & been able to make new music. But now I feel invigorated & light moving forward. Connected with my gift & my love for music once again.”

Last Season on The Masked Singer, Tori Kelly as The Seahorse was sent home just ahead of the finale. She had most viewers pulling for her to win the competition. It was LeAnn Rimes as The Sun in the end who was declared the winner. After speaking with Kelly, JoJo knew she wanted to do the competition.

“I want to thank everyone who works behind the scenes on this show-NOTHING would happen without you! Wardrobe dept, musical director, choreographers, vocal coaches, producers, PA’s, set designers, & everyone else who brings this show to life,” she wrote. “To @torikelly for telling me about her experience & being the confirmation I needed to do the show. To all the judges for being so good at your jobs. And to my family & friends for not being mad at me when u knew I was lying thru my teeth about ‘not being on the show.'”

She Just Dropped a Brand New Song

JoJo dropped a new song called “Creature of Habit” just after her big Masked Singer reveal aired on television. The song gives off a bit of a nostalgic vibe because JoJo owned the early 2000’s with her music. She talked about child stardom throughout her journey on The Masked Singer and is reigniting her career a decade later.

“‘Creature of Habit’ is about someone who feels addicted to the habit of a relationship, even though they’re not truly happy in it,” she said in a press release.

The song has some of the same flare that The Weeknd has in his music. This is fitting because it was produced by his producer Mano. Her Masked Singer finale performance of Michael Bolton’s “How Am I Supposed to Live Without You” demonstrated her tremendous vocal abilities that we only get to hear a little bit of on this new song.

JoJo’s song release was tactical in that it was done immediately after The Masked Singer. She did tease the song prior to the finale episode airing. This made some fans already assume she was not named the winner. Hanson did the same thing before their shocking elimination as The Russian Dolls.

JoJo has some big things in store for the future especially after winning her first-ever Grammy Award last year. She took home the award for Best R&B Song after she was featured on PJ Morton’s song “Say So.”
