Heidi Klum Shares Memories Preparing for Her First Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show
America’s Got Talent judge Heidi Klum made a name for herself as a Victoria’s Secret model in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Earlier this year, she posted a throwback video from her very first fashion show for the brand. Klum recently appeared on The Kelly Clarkson Show, where she told the host about her choice to film herself rehearsing in her apartment before the show.
Heidi Klum Remembers Rehearsing for Victoria’s Secret
Klum said she put the carpet to the side in her railroad apartment in New York so she could rehearse her walk ahead of her first Victoria’s Secret fashion show. She joked to Clarkson that she should have worn a matching set of lingerie, rather than the white and gray underwear she has on in the clip.
“I just wanted to see what it looks like when I walk,” she explained. “Also, at that time, we didn’t film ourselves as much as we do now with our phones. So I just wanted to see what it looks like. I didn’t want to be on one of the biggest runways ever, for me, and not know what it looks like.”
Fellow model Winnie Harlow was also a guest with Klum on Clarkson’s show, and she said she used to watch Klum’s videos to prepare for the runaway. They bonded over how quickly people change them during fashion shows, with Klum comparing it to a “pit stop at Formula One.”
Klum’s Daughter is Following in Her Model Footsteps
Klum became a Victoria’s Secret Angel in 1999. She modeled for the company until 2010, and has gone on to encourage up-and-coming models as the host of Germany’s Next Top Model.
Klum’s teenage daughter Leni is now following in her mother’s footsteps. She recently appeared on the cover of Germany’s Glamour magazine, 20 years after her mom. Mother and daughter also recently posed together for the cover of German Vogue.
Even fellow AGT judge Howie Mandel is trying his hand at modeling. In a hilarious video, Mandel tried on Klum’s high-heeled boots and showed off his best runway walk, with Klum coaching him. She’ll have the whole world on the catwalk pretty soon.
