Blake Shelton’s Former Bandmate Pete Mroz Says He Fumbled the Instant Save on ‘The Voice’

When Pete Mroz reunited with his former bandmate Blake Shelton on The Voice this season, fans of the show loved getting a glimpse into their bromance. Shelton awkwardly did not recognize Pete at first, but made up for it by telling stories about how they first burst onto the Nashville music scene together.

Pete hosted an Instagram Live session with Team Legend standout Zania Alaké last night. They talked about everything that happened and their experiences on Season 20 of The Voice.

Pete Mroz, Zania Alaké Discuss Instant Save Performance on ‘The Voice’

Pete and Shelton were in a group of young artists called the Young Riders before Shelton made it big. The two had not seen each other for 25 years at the time of Pete’s Blind Audition this season on The Voice. Pete is still chasing the dream after he was eliminated from the competition. He failed to get enough votes in the Instant Save. Pete’s fellow Team Blake artist Cam Anthony ended up walking away with the winner’s title during the two-night Season 20 finale.

“As much as you still talk to your kids and FaceTime all that stuff you just don’t realize how mentally you were in some kind of bubble,” Pete said about returning home after The Voice.

The two had a total giggle-fest talking about Pete’s Instant Save performance. He hysterically fumbled the words of Dan + Shay’s “Speechless” live on stage. Pete did not think he was going to be singing that song that night, but fully took responsibility for not knowing the words.

“When I had to sing my save song, I didn’t know the song,” he admitted. “I just didn’t know it.”

Zania Hopes to Pursue a Music Career After the Show

Zania told the story of what happened backstage while Pete stood with the words to the song in his pocket. He said that he still needed to learn the words. All of The Voice contestants were cracking up since this performance was his last chance to stay in the competition.

“I made up four lines on the fly on national television to a song that is not mine,” he said while laughing.

But at the end of the day, Pete feels like whatever was meant to happen did happen. Normally, he preps all of his songs and that’s probably why he has been able to maintain a music career all of these years.

Zania is a banker, but ultimately hopes that she can pursue a singing career especially after The Voice. While she hasn’t played as many gigs, Pete thinks the future is bright for her.

“I have a sneaky feeling that you will be playing a lot of shows now,” Pete told Zania. “You put together a kick ass band and you just go sing your little heart out. The gigs will be there.”

Zania performed “Dangerous Woman” during the first live show of the season. When it came time for the results show, she ended up not being chosen to go straight through to the next round by John Legend. Zania and Ryleigh Modig were left fighting for America’s Votes to have the chance to perform in the Instant Save. Ryleigh was chosen to perform once more which sent Zania home. Still, she made her mark on the show after showcasing her soulful voice.
