‘American Idol’ Winner Lee DeWyze Previews Folksy Song Off New Album

American Idol Season 9 winner Lee DeWyze is gearing up to release his latest album Ghost Stories next week, and he just shared the title track with fans. The song shows off the softer side of the singer’s voice.
DeWyze will be heading out on tour the day after the new album is released. The 35-year-old recently shared a track listing and album artwork on his Instagram, and it has us very excited to hear the whole project.
Lee DeWyze Releases New Song ‘Ghost Stories’
During his time on American Idol and in his music releases after his win, DeWyze was known for more of a rocker edge and a gravely tone. However, he’s leaned more into the folk genre in the years since, and this new track is the perfect example of the artist he’s become.
On “Ghost Stories,” DeWyze displays a gentle tone, accompanied by acoustic guitar and dreamlike backing vocals. There’s a sweetness to the singer’s voice that might surprise Idol fans, and we’re loving it. The song also has a lyric video featuring surreal artwork that fits with the feeling of the song.
DeWyze shared a track listing for the upcoming album on Instagram, and it includes the song “Weeds,” which he released last year. This quiet, folksy song shares a similar vibe to “Ghost Stories,” which has us even more anxious to listen to the full album.

What Is New Song ‘Ghost Stories’ About?
DeWyze told American Songwriter that he doesn’t like revealing what his songs are about, so his fans can form their own interpretations. In some cases, he said he himself isn’t totally sure what his songs are about until he’s finished, explaining, “So many things reveal themselves in the process, and even after.”
“‘Ghost Stories is about telling the story in a more abstract way so people can interpret the song for themselves,” DeWyze told the outlet. “I wanted not just the emotion of the music and lyrics, but the words themselves to have an impact. It was made in a way as it felt like a continuous movement across a page, as in a story.”
DeWyze earned some streaming success in recent years thanks to his songs being featured on various popular television series. However, he’s built only a modest social media following since his American Idol win in 2010. Hopefully more people will discover his talent with the release of this new project.
